About Sharon, TN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Sharon is a rural town in Weakley County, Tennessee with a population of approximately 988. Nearby South Fulton (in conjunction with Fulton, Kentucky) holds the annual International Banana Festival with food, fun and festivities (included a banana pudding contest). It seems strange to many to have such a festival in this part of Tennessee because the climate in this part of the country is moderate with cool winters and warm summers but is certainly not tropical. Therefore, it is not a great place to farm, harvest or produce bananas. However, an interesting bit of trivia that most do not realize, is that, at one point in history, over 70% of the bananas that were shipped in the U.S. passed through the area via train.
The University of Tennessee at Martin, is also nearby and, not surprisingly, runs a large experimental farm. This branch of the University of Tennessee was named “A Best Southeastern College” by The Princeton Review. This part of the United States is suited for farming programs and agricultural education because of its moderate climate but other programs at the university are certainly worthy of some consideration. If nothing else, you should check out the rural campus for its beautiful landscaping.
The cooler winter months are typically relatively mild and not bitterly cold at all. However, if you are looking for a fun indoor activity for the cooler months then Discovery Park, in nearby Union City, is worth a visit. A large entertainment and education facility and children’s museum, it is a great way to spend a day with your children. Its goal is to expand the minds of local kids (and adults) through interactive and exciting learning experiences.
